An English Class in International Ministries

After ELI class on Monday,I had a short talk with Mary.The topic was about how to make chance to talk with native English speakers,she recommended me to go to the International Ministries to have a try and I did it on Tuesday.
I was there a litter bit early,and the "teacher" gave me a warm welcome. Cause this was my first time in the class,all the participants introduced themselves and I need to introduce myself,too.After a short introduction,we started the class with a story in Bible.Although I have difficulty to cover all the details, I can understand the whole story.Then ,we focus on the topic of emergency events, learned several new words and had a free talking about the emergency event we have met and what we should do to keep ourselves safe.The class lasted about one and a half hour and we were enjoyed it.
The teachers are a family, they offer the opportunities for us to improve our oral English.All the classmates are from different level and occupations, there are housewife, students and visiting scholar. We are all Asian so we may share the same culture but we still need time to adjust to accent.As for me ,I found that my vocabulary is very poor and they need to explain the words so I can understand,sometimes I need to use my phone to translate it into Chinese.During the class, the atmosphere was pretty good and we have snacks and drinks to share with each other.All in all ,it's a good experience with learning opportunities and challenge,I'd like to try the advanced English class someday.

Animal Farm

This week, I finished reading a book called Animal Farm which I borrowed from the UH Library. I usually read books before I go to bed,sometimes, when I feel really sleepy,I will skip this step.As a consequence,it costs me a week to finish this book.

Before choose this book to read,I have read several English books from the library such as the Joy Luck Club, the Wind in the Willows, Charlotte's Web.At the same time,when I come to Hawaii,I have downloaded a series of Harry Potter on my Kindle and now 1'm on the third book called Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban. Those books are for the teenagers with rich plots,so I decided to read a different kind of fictions.I have heard Animal Farm before and actually I have this book but never try open it.However, in Hawaii,I choose to read this book to improve my English.

This book is different from those books I mentions before,It's about the political,so it may not attractive and I gave up several times but finally made it. I didn't use a dictionary because I just want to understand the main idea.The author talked about the animals that trying to control their own life and build a world of equal but finally ruled by pigs.People said that this book reflects the historical events of Soviet Union from the October Revolution to Stalin period and I agree with it.

A Wonderful Day

Yesterday was a wonderful day!

In the morning,I and a friend of mine went to the Art Building to have a sketching class ,cause this was my first time to attend a class like this ,it makes me feel new and novelty. I thought I would feel awkward or embarrassed to draw a naked woman in public ,however, when all the painters were addicted into the world of art ,there was no reason to worry anymore.

After finished the class ,we went to a Japanese restaurant to ate noddles and it tastes pretty good.Then we walked to the Honolulu Museum of Art to enjoy the art and humanities. The museum was divided into several parts such as Asian Art and Arts of Hawaii and Europe .Each parts have different culture and aesthetic value, although I may not understand what's the meaning of the art stand for ,I feel relaxed and peaceful to enjoy the world of art.

The museum was closed in 5:00 pm,so we decided to go to the Waikiki beach to watch the sunset.I have been to Hawaii for about a month but this was my first time to sit down and wait for the sunset.And take it for me, this is the best place to date and watch the sunset together quietly.Cause this was my first time to see the sunset in Hawaii beach,I thought I will never forget the inspiring sight in the future.

The waikiki beach is not far from UH,so we decided to walk to school and enjoy the moonshine(another reason is that the bus was not available then). During the whole day,We walked about 19.7 kilometers a day,hang around and enjoyed a tired but meaningful day.
